Panama, Jamaica meet in Concacaf clash at Women’s World Cup

MIAMI, Florida – Two Concacaf teams, Panama and Jamaica, will face each other in Group F of the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup on Saturday at the Perth Rectangular Stadium in Perth, Australia.

When Las Canaleras made history by qualifying to their first ever Women’s World Cup via the Inter-Confederation Playoff, they slotted into the same group as their Concacaf rivals.

It will be the first time that two teams from Concacaf have faced each other in a Women’s World Cup group stage and it is the first all-Concacaf match at a Women’s World Cup since the United States and Canada squared off in the Third-Place Match at the 2003 tournament.

Needless to say, these squads know each other well and will be ready to compete once again on the field.

Panama had a tough debut against South America champions Brazil, losing 4-0, however, their strengths showed during the game, and they will use them against a familiar rival.

GK Yenith Bailey won the 2018 Concacaf W Championship Golden Glove for a reason and was the most important player for Panama against Brazil in dealing with nine shots on target.

Jamaica is a team that writes history every time they take the pitch. In their opening match in their second Women’s World Cup, they won their first ever point thanks to a 0-0 draw against France.

Captain and attacking star Khadija Shaw who was a force to be reckoned with, almost giving her team a win, leading them until she saw a second yellow card, ending in a red that will keep Shaw from playing against Panama.

These teams have faced each other four different times, with Jamaica having the upper hand with a 2W-1D-1L record, and a goal difference of seven goals in these encounters.

This will be a Concacaf classic that fans will be waiting for, with both teams hungry to prove their talent and the growth their women's football has had in recent years.
