Santa Lucia out to avoid surprises at Metropolitan

Published on

MIAMI, Florida – Guatemalan side Santa Lucia will be looking to avoid any surprises when they take on Metropolitan of Puerto Rico in the second leg of their 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf League Preliminary Round series on Tuesday night at the Estadio Juan Ramon Loubriel in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

Two weeks ago, the Chapines used an Isaac Acuna goal and an assist to help secure a 3-0 first leg victory to put themselves in a great position to be able to close out the tie on Tuesday and claim their first ever Concacaf club competition series win.

Acuna and company will be back at it to try to lock down another SCL win for Santa Lucia, who became just the second Guatemalan side to win in their SCL debut, following in the footsteps of Comunicaciones in 2019.

In addition to Acuna, Brandon de Leon and Juan David Osorio provided scores in the first leg, while Diego Ruiz was also a menace, with an assist and three shots, including one off the post.

Metropolitan will be hoping the friendly confines of the Estadio Juan Ramon Loubriel can spark a comeback attempt.

The Boricuas have their own weapons in the form of Giancarlo Maldonado, Franco Lopez and Diego Amarilla, who each tested the Santa Lucia goal with a shot in the first leg.

Maldonado also has a strong Concacaf pedigree, having won the inaugural Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League in 2008-09 as a member of Mexican club Atlante.

An early goal from the home side could make for an exciting night of football on the island.
