MIAMI, Florida – Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic will join the United States as the teams qualifying out of Group E for the knockout round of the 2022 Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship in the Dominican Republic following the results of Tuesday’s matches.
The day at the Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez in Santo Domingo opened with Puerto Rico taking on a Nicaragua side seeking their first win in the tournament.
Nicaragua GK Raquel Garcia made a trio of saves to keep things scoreless, but she was unable to prevent Puerto Rico’s Brooke Hart from getting on the end of a long cross and volleying home to give the Boricuas a 1-0 lead that they held until the final whistle.
The action in the group was then capped by a 7-0 win for the U.S. against host nation Dominican Republic.
Andrea Kitahata scored for the third game in a row when she tallied the first U.S. goal in the 33’. Alexis Missimo added a brace with scores in the 35’ and 41’.
That momentum continued into the second half, with a Gabriela Marte own goal in the 47’ and scores from Talia DellaPeruta (58’), Emily Colton (79’) and Simone Jackson (90+2’) completing the scoring for the reigning CWU20 champions.
