Trinidad & Tobago set sights on Prelims in finale vs. Mexico

Published on

MIAMI, Florida – League A of the Road to W Gold Cup comes to a close on Tuesday night with Trinidad and Tobago hoping to seize a place in the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup Prelims when they meet Mexico in their Group A finale at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

Trinidad and Tobago are third in the group with one point through three matches, but a four-goal victory against Mexico would be enough to lift Trinidad and Tobago past Puerto Rico in the group standings and clinch a berth in the W Gold Cup Prelims.

Mexico will certainly have a say in all of that, as El Tricolor have been masterful in the group, earning three wins in their three matches, while outscoring their opponents 11-1.

Mexico have already sealed their spot in the W Gold Cup group stage, however they will no doubt be eager to complete their RTWGC campaign with a perfect mark.

Kiana Palacios came off the bench in the previous match and scored two goals to lead Mexico to a 3-0 win at Puerto Rico. Scarlett Camberos served up two assists on the night, giving her three for the tournament.

Trinidad and Tobago will need their attack to kick into gear if they are to entertain possibilities of the Prelims. Alexcia Ali has the lone goal for her team in the RTWGC, while Asha James has proven to be dangerous in taking six shots.

GK Simone Eligon will also be aiming for her second clean sheet of the tournament and has 13 saves and three clearances overall.
